Our Journey to Bring History to Life

2015: The Spark of Discovery

Founded by Dr. Evelyn Reed, a historical archaeologist, and Mr. Thomas "Iron" Finch, a former industrial engineer, Ironwood Escapes began as a passion project to uncover and share the forgotten narratives of Southern Ontario’s early industrial prowess. Their initial walking tours of abandoned mill towns quickly gained traction.

2018: Expanding Horizons

After three successful years, Ironwood Escapes officially incorporated, expanding beyond local tours to include immersive role-playing experiences at heritage sites. This period also saw the development of our first educational program for high school students, focusing on the social impacts of the Industrial Revolution.

2021: National Recognition & Culinary Adventures

Our commitment to authentic storytelling earned us the "Canadian Heritage Tourism Excellence Award." Building on this success, we introduced our popular period-inspired culinary tours, allowing guests to taste the past and connect with local food histories.
